Dean’s Message

Founded in 1948, the Department of Chemical Engineering

has continuously strived to lead innovation and pioneer new educational models in line with the remarkable advances in science and technology.

Chemical engineering has long contributed to improving quality of life and advancing industrial competitiveness. In the 21st century, its role has expanded with the convergence of biotechnology, nanotechnology, and the development of alternative energy sources beyond fossil fuels.

To build a solid foundation for academic advancement, our department has continuously enhanced traditional chemical engineering disciplines while actively introducing cutting-edge technologies, offering a top-tier education that carries forward our university’s spirit of practicality.

Moving forward, we aim to strengthen our global competitiveness and establish ourselves as a world-class department recognized for excellence in education and research.

Major in Chemical Engineering

For over 77 years, our department’s outstanding educational achievements have been recognized through national evaluations, including top ratings by the Korean Council for University Education.

Our faculty lead pioneering research, securing BK21 programs, government-designated research centers, and specialized graduate programs that position us ahead of other institutions.

Building on our long tradition and history, we remain committed to continuous innovation and to cultivating the next generation of chemical engineers and global leaders equipped to drive technological breakthroughs.

Department Chair, Chemical Engineering Do Hwan Kim
Main Research Areas

Chemical engineering is a core discipline for material development, process design, and operation, providing graduates with a wide range of career opportunities in petrochemicals, semiconductors, displays, and energy industries.

Graduates may also enter public sectors such as government research institutes, national technology positions, or pursue professional licenses (e.g., patent attorney) for careers in law and technology. Those who continue on to graduate school can work as researchers in national laboratories and industry R&D centers or advance into academia as professors and scholars. Chemical engineering plays a pivotal role in advanced technology and manufacturing industries, making it one of the most versatile and future-oriented majors.
