History

The undergraduate program in Chemical Engineering was established in 1948 and welcomed its first cohort of students the same year. Despite the challenges of the Korean War, the department celebrated its first graduating class of 36 students in 1954. Over the past half-century, more than 5,900 undergraduate students have earned their degrees here.

The Graduate School of Chemical Engineering was officially founded in 1956, conferring its first master’s degree in 1958. Since then, the program has produced over 1,600 master’s graduates and more than 300 Ph.D. holders, contributing significantly to academia, industry, and research worldwide.
